Celebrate National Regifting Day With Your Car Donation

December 13, 2013

Do you have a kind aunt who, with the best of intentions, gave you pink fluffy-bunny pajamas when you were 6 instead of the Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle you had been asking for? We’ve all gotten gifts that were very nice and totally useless. That is why National Regifting Day has become so popular! National Regifting Day is an annual celebration which takes place the third Thursday in December. The third Thursday in December is also the most popular day for office holiday parties. Here at Wheels For Wishes, we would like to help you to pick out some gifts that won’t need re-gifting. Here is our list of eight eco-friendly green gifts that won’t need re-gifting and will help maintain the environment.

Eight Gifts That Will Help The Environment And Won’t Need Re-Gifting

Don’t repackage a gift you got at last year’s office holiday party. Break the cycle with one of these great gifts that your co-workers, friends and family will love.

  1. Jewelry. Buying jewelry for a holiday gift can be a bit of a challenge. The key to getting it right is knowing the person for whom you are shopping. Not everyone wears a lot of jewelry, and some don’t like specific kinds. Still, jewelry is one of the best green-gifts you can buy. Not only is most metal reusable, but you can find jewelry in pawn shops or thrift stores. If staying green is important to you this holiday season, don’t overlook the jewelry market.
  2. Handmade Gifts. This is another item that can go terribly wrong, but has tremendous upside. Ugly holiday sweaters can be fun for ugly sweater parties, but it is probably best to stay clear of them when gift-giving. Instead, if you are looking to create a gift for a friend, think about fabricating a purse or wallet. If you haven’t yet mastered hand-crafting wallets, there are some great websites that sell handmade gifts at a reasonable price. Handmade gifts are personal and eco-friendly, which makes them the perfect gift!
  3. Food. There aren’t a lot of people who don’t like getting cookies as a present, just be sure the person for whom you are cooking isn’t allergic to any of the ingredients.
  4. Gift Cards. Some people feel like buying gift cards is taking the easy way out. However, purchasing a gift card ensures that no matter what the recipient decides to get with the card, it will be something they want. If you don’t know what the perfect gift is for someone, this lets them decide in their own time.
  5. Scarves. It is difficult to go wrong with a scarf – especially if you live up north. Be creative about where you get a scarf to get the most out of your purchase. There are suppliers that re-use material and hand-weave their fabric to make some of the most original and comfortable scarfs out there. There are also options for fair-trade scarves, which might cost a little more, but are worth it for their quality and the knowledge that they were created with fair labor practices.
  6. Make a donation in someone’s name. This isn’t the most exciting gift to receive, but this is probably one of the best gifts to receive. The holiday season is about helping others, and making a donation to a nonprofit ensures that you are doing just that. Just make sure that whatever donation you are making in someone else’s name is going toward a group or idea for which they are very passionate.
  7. A filtered bottle. Most offices have a water cooler, or at least a sink. Next to that cooler there are probably dozens of paper cups littered in a trash can. A filtered bottle can help save paper and the planet, and it is a gift that can be used in any number of situations. Even if they already have a water bottle, this is the kind of gift that can’t go wrong. There isn’t a finite number of bottles one person can have, so the more the merrier.
  8. Get creative with a vase. If you are low on money and running full on creativity, it might be fun to make a vase as a gift this year. You can recycle old material from around your home – like an antique glass – and use it as a gift! Fill it with flowers for your sweetheart and hit the holiday present jackpot.

Car Donation Is The Best Green Gift

Think green this holiday season and get gifts that your family, friends and coworkers will really enjoy. The best green gift you can give this season is a car donation to Wheels For Wishes. Donating a vehicle to Wheels For Wishes improves the lives of children and helps to maintain the environment. Wheels For Wishes benefits Make-A-Wish, which means your car donation will help grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses across the United States – in cities like Baltimore, Atlanta and Seattle.

Used vehicles are the ultimate green gift because there are so many uses to a vehicle, even one you no longer want. More than 95 percent of each recycled car is re-used and many donated vehicles are auctioned off to new owners. Your car won’t end up rotting in a landfill. Instead, it will find a new home and continue to be used in some way, reducing waste and helping to save the planet.
